The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Shah Farman, has said the federal government is planning to initiate a “Fruits For All” programme in the province aimed at meeting nutrition requirements of the young generation.
Chairing a meeting in Peshawar on Friday, he reviewed progress regarding the launch of the programme, while also getting briefed on the law and order situation.
The Fruits For All programme will be launched in collaboration with the National Bank of Pakistan to meet nutrition challenges in the province. During the course of the meeting, the governor was told that 130,000 saplings of fruit plants would be given to various institutions in the first month of the new year to kick start the plantation campaign.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that “Fruits For All” programme has been designed to counter nutrition related challenges of the young generation.
He said the PTI government is striving to turn KP into a fruit producing province so that people of the area could get self-sufficiency in fruit production.
On the occasion, the governor also issued directives to the agriculture department to check the quality and standard of fruit plants keeping in view the harsh summer and winter seasons. Principal Secretary to the Governor Nizamuddin, Agriculture Secretary Muhammad Israr and representatives of NBP, National Highway Authority, Agriculture and Forest Departments and other senior officials attended the meeting.
Back in November this year, the governor had pledged that the PTI would soon launch “Fruits for All” programme to make the province self-reliant in fruit production.
